Many aspects of our outward appearance can be directly related to aspects of our lifestyle. One of the best examples of this idea is our teeth. What we eat or drink can change the appearance of our teeth. If you eat too much or drink too much of the wrong things, our teeth will turn yellow or brown. When that happens, we start to hide our smile and that’s not just a crime against our self-esteem, it’s a crime against humanity. Smiles are contagious, release endorphins and overall a great way to share happiness. Luckily, it’s easier to whiten your teeth with your diet rather than try different strips and gums.
Having a beautiful smile makes it easier to share our smiles with others. However, not everyone has white teeth and so they hide their smile from the world as much as possible. But unlike a pair of shoes or a nice dress, the smile will never go out of style. One common misconception is that yellow teeth must mean poor dental hygiene. Unfortunately, some causes of yellow teeth can’t be controlled. Don’t worry though, there are things you can do to whiten your teeth right at home.
There are many things that can cause yellow or dull teeth. While poor oral hygiene is one of them, other things like smoking, tobacco use, aging, and genetics can all cause dull yellow teeth. Most of these things are well-known and some can even be controlled. But there is still one cause of yellow teeth, diet. There are many things that we enjoy that can cause yellow teeth, coffee, tea, red wine, berries, and tomatoes. Other foods can eat away at your enamel, causing a dull appearance like juice, soda, citric fruits, and alcohol. With all of these things factoring into the appearance of your teeth, it seems impossible to avoid them all.
If you want to whiten your teeth without any strips, keep them clean. Stick to a routine as much as possible to ensure your teeth stay white and healthy. A good routine will require you to rinse your mouth with water or mouthwash after every meal, brush twice a day, floss twice a day and use mouthwash just before bed. When looking for a quality toothpaste, make sure it has fluoride and floss after every meal.
If you think about your teeth like a car, getting a professional cleaning is like getting your car detailed. Sure, a detail isn’t mandatory but it does wonders for the appearance of your car and will do the same for your teeth. Not only will your teeth look amazing afterward, a dentist can also help make sure you have proper dental hygiene. Everyone should visit the dentist at least twice a year for a deep clean and oral exam.
To whiten your teeth, avoid certain foods and drinks as much as possible. While you don’t have to take them out of your diet completely, you should avoid consuming them in excess. Decrease the amount of coffee you drink, same for juice and alcohol. Soda is never great, especially if you want to whiten your teeth and you can drink water instead of tea. It may be difficult at first to monitor what you consume for your dental hygiene but it will become routine eventually.
Not only will you whiten your teeth when you stop smoking, you will improve your overall health as well. Even if you aren’t smoking, any form of tobacco use will dull your teeth and destroy your dental hygiene. Quitting tobacco will take strength, a support system and could even take professional help. But we are all stronger than any single substance and you have the power to quit tobacco, better your health and improve your smile.
While there are plenty of natural ways to whiten your teeth, strips aren’t the enemy either. However, it’s important that you use the right strips because some aren’t known to work. Look for teeth whitening strips that contain kosher glycerin, peppermint oil, or carbomer. If you see any or all of those ingredients, the odds of the strips actually working are increased.
