Beautiful skin is always something to be proud of. While it is true, some are more easily blessed with naturally beautiful skin than others, achieving a clear complexion may not take as much work as we think. Sometimes, our skin gets forgotten about in our self-care routines. Owning beautiful skin takes commitment, not a miracle. And making the conscious decision to accomplish healthy, glowing skin may be the best investment we ever make. And it should be. After all, our glowing skin is going to represent us for a long time.
Over time, your body will begin to despise you for any regular consumption of greasy, sugar-filled and fatty foods. You may start to gain weight, feel sluggish and have horrible breakouts. When we put good foods in, we get good results. One of the easiest ways we can keep our selves looking fresh and glowing is to consume wholesome, nutritious foods. Providing our bodies with the proper nutrients they need will keep us looking young and healthy. Avoiding fast foods, sodas, and sugary foods is the best way to maintain a clear beautiful skin.
Water is good for our bodies in more way than one. Not only does water keep us hydrated, but it also helps our bodies to flush out waste and boosts our immune system. Water helps our skin by keeping it well hydrated and by flushing out toxins inside the body.
Sometimes we get carried away and shove anything our heart desires into our faces… cheeseburgers, chips, and ice-cream. Unfortunately, it catches up with us quickly. Our face breaks out, our hair gets oily, and we start to look like a hot mess. That’s what detoxing is for. To detox, basically means to remove any impurities, toxins or unhealthy foods from your normal consumption. There are many ways to detox, but the best detox method is the one that works for YOU. Detoxing can be juice cleansing, fasting or even just eating whole foods. Not only does detoxing our bodies from greasy foods and sugars help us relieve bloat and provide us with weight loss; detoxing our bodies also helps us to absorb nutrients better, rids us of any impurities and boosts our immune system.
How clean is your face at the end of each day? Think about it. Throughout the day, you talk on your smartphone, you pick up the office telephone, you rub your face, you eat lunch, blow your nose, you sweat… the list goes on. Do more to keep your face clean. To keep a clean face, avoid touching our rubbing your face too much. Also, don’t scratch at any breakouts or lesions you may have because it will only irritate them more. And always wash your face at the end of each day with a good facial cleanser.
Life is better in our pajamas. But really, quality sleep is wonderful and necessary. When we lose sleep, our bodies notice. Without rest, our bodies will begin to lose the ability to absorb vitamins and minerals they might need to keep us healthy. How does this affect your glowing skin? Well, haven’t you ever walked around looking like you had 50 shades of dark circles under your eyes? Not a happy complexion. Do your best to get enough quality sleep. The average adult requires 8 hours of sleep each night, so do your best to achieve that goal.
Although exercise does not reverse aging, recent studies have shown that exercise certainly helps keep our skin healthy and young. In a recent study led by Dr. Tarnopolsky of McMaster University in Ontario, skin samples of men over forty who exercise routinely looked similar to that of skin samples of men in their mid-twenties. The researchers also noticed that levels of myokines, a protein responsible for cellular function were much higher in those who exercise.
When you bake a chicken in the oven, the chicken skin gets brown and crispy. Well, the same concept when we expose our skin to too much ultraviolet (UV). Over time, skin that is exposed to excessive amounts of UV from the sun or tanning beds will age progressively. Skin will start to look dry and wrinkled and develop pigment (age spots). The best way to avoid UV exposure is to stay out of tanning beds and always wear sunscreen and protection when in the sun for long periods of time.
For glowing skin, it is important to keep your face clean and hydrated. According to the American Association of Dermatology, a product containing benzoyl peroxide may be all that it takes to clear out any bacteria trapped in our pores. It is also important to use a product that contains natural ingredients to avoid applying chemicals to your skin. Use a good facial moisturizer after each wash to keep your skin from drying out. A good moisturizer will also prevent wrinkles.
Avoiding smoking can improve the quality of your glowing skin greatly. Chemicals in cigarettes damage skin collagen and elasticity. Nicotine in cigarettes causes the blood vessels to narrow. When this occurs, the skin does not get proper amounts of oxygen, hydration or nutrients. When you smoke, you will also start to obtain “smoker’s wrinkles” around the lips.
